Who we are

EcoSymbia is an international group of independently owned ecological consultancies working together to solve complex environmental and biodiversity challenges. Our partner companies bring more than 550 ecologists, biologists and environmental specialists to projects across Europe and beyond.

We combine applied research with practical, on-the-ground delivery. That means reliable ecological insight for complex projects, backed by decades of field experience, and outcomes clients can act on.

Why EcoSymbia

The name says it: eco, for ecology, and symbiosis, the principle where different organisms thrive by combining what each brings on its own.

In nature, the strongest systems are rarely built by one species working alone. A root trading nutrients with a fungus, a hermit crab carrying a sea anemone for protection, a flower and the insect that depends on it: symbiosis is how life does more together than apart.

We think good ecological work follows the same logic. Not development pulling against nature, but the two finding a way to make each other's outcomes stronger. And it describes how we work as partners, too.

Our story

  1. EcoSymbia was formed in 2024 as the European Renewable Energy & Wildlife Consortium (ERWC), to help wind and solar projects assess and manage their impacts on birds, bats and other wildlife. That work remains an important part of what we do.

  2. Our partner companies quickly proved what a team built on complementary expertise can offer, and the work grew well beyond renewables: infrastructure, land use, marine surveys, habitat restoration, permitting support and biodiversity net gain.

  3. We took a name that reflects what our partners have always done individually, and now deliver together. The partner companies, their teams and their projects are unchanged. Clients keep working with the same people, with the wider group's expertise behind them.

Fifteen companies, one coordinated platform

No single team sees the whole picture alone. What holds us together isn't a contract, it's years of trusting each other's judgement in the field, project after project. Clients reach that combined expertise through a single point of contact, not fifteen separate vendors to manage.

Is EcoSymbia the same as ERWC?

Yes. EcoSymbia was formed in 2024 as the European Renewable Energy & Wildlife Consortium (ERWC) and took its new name in October 2026. The partner companies, teams and projects are unchanged.

Which companies are part of EcoSymbia?

The five partners are Waardenburg Ecology (Netherlands), Écosphère (France), Nature Conservation Consultants (Greece), Oikon (Croatia) and Bioinsight (Portugal). Their partner companies are BESE, VisAdvies, TBM Environnement, Somme, Novasol Experts, ORA Environnement, Marine Biodiversity Surveys, Pro Silva, Supernatural and Ecoa (Brazil).

Where does EcoSymbia work?

The group has offices in nine countries across Europe, Asia and South America. Its partner companies have delivered projects in 88 countries and territories on all seven continents.

What services does EcoSymbia offer?

Environmental and biodiversity impact assessment, permitting support, ecological monitoring and field research, nature-inclusive design, habitat restoration, forest ecology and management, biodiversity net gain, eDNA, radar and bioacoustic monitoring, GIS and remote sensing, and sustainability reporting support (EU Taxonomy, CSRD).

Which sectors does EcoSymbia work in?

Renewable energy, infrastructure and transport, extractives and industry, land and natural resources, and finance and ESG.

Why work with a group rather than a single consultancy?
