ERWC becomes EcoSymbia

The European Renewable Energy & Wildlife Consortium (ERWC) is now EcoSymbia. The new name reflects the full range of environmental and biodiversity expertise our five partners and their companies bring to clients, well beyond wind and solar.

EcoSymbia brings together Waardenburg Ecology (Netherlands), Écosphère (France), Nature Conservation Consultants (Greece), Oikon (Croatia) and Bioinsight (Portugal). With their partner companies, that is fifteen companies with offices in nine countries across Europe, Asia and South America, and more than 550 ecologists, biologists and environmental specialists. Together they have completed more than 50,000 projects in 88 countries and territories on all seven continents.

ERWC was formed in 2024 to help wind and solar projects manage their impacts on birds, bats and other wildlife. That work continues, alongside infrastructure, land use, marine surveys, habitat restoration, permitting support and biodiversity net gain.

“Renewable energy brought us together, but between us, our companies have always covered far more than that. EcoSymbia is a name that finally reflects the full range of expertise our partners bring to clients.”

Eelco Waardenburg, director of Waardenburg Ecology

The name combines ecology with symbiosis, the close relationship between different organisms. It expresses our aim to help development and nature coexist, and the way our companies work together. Nothing changes for clients: the same teams and the same projects, with the wider group’s expertise behind them.
